High-shrink polyester compaction tape that applies radial consolidation pressure during composite tube cures and releases cleanly after cure.
Calculate spiral wrap turns and total linear yardage required to compact wet carbon layups. Includes 2 anchor turns per pass and a 15% tension/tail buffer for heat-gun consolidation.
Anchor 1 full turn 2" past the scarf taper, wrap spirally under firm hand tension across the wet laminate (50% overlap), secure the tail with heat-resistant tape, and sweep a heat gun at 110°C–150°C to activate 15% radial compaction and resin bleed-out.
Real performance feedback from composite engineers, boat builders, and fabricators.
Used this in a vacuum infusion layup for an automotive aerodynamic splitter. The weave stayed uniform with zero distortion around 90-degree draft angles, and resin uptake matched our calculated laminate fraction within 2%.
Shipped in clean roll packaging without fold creases. Worked with PRO-SET laminating epoxy without any sizing incompatibility. De-molded cleanly after 24h room temp cure with post-cure schedule.
Fibers do not fray excessively during dry pattern cutting. Recommend ceramic shears for tight radius templates. Will re-order in bulk roll quantities for production run.
